Regular “deadheading” to promote prolonged flowering. This allows the plant to invest in creating more flowers than seeds. Crocosmia likes full sun, which has a positive effect on the colour of the flowers and on their flowering ability. If plants are overcrowded, division every few years also helps them to grow better and to flower better. Staking can help taller varieties from bending in windy weather. Bloom quality and a more dramatic garden display can be achieved by further enhancing the bloom by regular watering during hot periods and occasional feeding with phosphorus-rich fertiliser.
